Annual Fund - Sustainer Program

The Annual Fund makes it possible for CMSa2 to offer high-quality music instruction to all. The generosity of donors goes to work wherever the need and opportunity are greatest and helps us close the gap between tuition and all the demands of being a community music school dedicated to artistic excellence.

Through a gift to the Annual Fund, you can help inspire students at every level and transform their lives.  Every contribution is an important investment in the lives of the musicians of today who will become the artists of tomorrow.

What Is the Annual Fund?  Tuition dollars are used to pay our fine teaching staff and help with other program expenses.  Many of our programs, however, are offered for their educational, entertainment, and community service value rather than for their ability to cover expenses.  The costs of these programs continue to rise each year as we improve their quality and value.

CMSa2’s Annual Fund helps to make these invaluable programs and events possible.  Your generous contribution to the Annual Fund will support CMSa2 programs with the most urgent need.  Here are just a few examples of the ways your Annual Fund gift helps:

  • Enrichment programs for the Senior Strings Orchestra
  • Youth Orchestra programs
  • Faculty support
  • Performances
  • Master classes

Jazz Studies Program

The Jazz Studies Program is designed for instrumentalists and vocalists looking for small ensemble experience with jazz styles from elementary age to adult.

Scholarship Program

This fund primarily provides financial assistance for any student who demonstrates financial need and the desire to study music. It also subsidizes tuition reduction for enrolling in more than one complementary offering and for members from the same family who are enrolled at the school.

Give at Work

Many companies generously match charitable contributions made by their employers. Check with your employer to learn if your support can be increased through a corporate matching gift program.

Planned Giving

Tax-deductible gifts to the school can be a part of your financial planning and an important part of the school’s future. For example, a gift of life insurance permits you to deduct premiums against current income. A gift of appreciated stock can offset capital gains. A bequest in your will or the creation of charitable trusts can help CMSa2 reach goals and create valuable tax-savings for you. If you are interested in planning such a gift, please call Anne Berquist, Executive Director, to discuss your goals.

In-Kind Gifts

AA-SPA accepts gifts of music, office equipment, instruments, and specific services. If you or your business have goods or services you feel would fill a need at CMSa2, please let us know. Please contact Anne Berquist at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 734.213.2000 for more information or for a list of our needs.

Gift Certificates Make Great Gifts!

In the spirit of seasonal giving, please consider sharing the gift of music by purchasing a CMSa2 gift certificate for a friend or family member. You might consider giving the opportunity to enroll in a class such as Musical Theater or the Keyboard Club, a semester of individual lessons, the Youth Orchestra, the Jazz Studies Program. To purchase a gift certificate, simply send us an e-mail or call 734.213.2000.

Who receives assistance?

Students of all ages, ethnicity, social and religious backgrounds are encouraged to apply.  Scholarships are based on financial need, not merit; however, the students are expected to use the awards responsibly and to maintain responsible attendance and practice habits. Please see attached sample student letter and application.

How are scholarships awarded?

Students must fill out an application form and provide documentation of total household income (most recent tax return or proof of free lunch at school, for example) to demonstrate need.  There is a $5 charge per lesson that can also be waived if the student can demonstrate that this fee would be prohibitive.

How are instructors selected and screened?

CMSa2 instructors are hired through a careful screening process and are required to possess a high level of education, teaching experience, and performance experience.  AAPS requires all tutors working in the program to be submitted to background check and fingerprint screening. The greatest benefit of giving to CMSa2 is knowing that your gift helps secure the future of CMSa2, fostering the growth of programs and providing the opportunity for all who seek a community arts education with the chance to participate in unique educational and performance experiences.
