Youth Ensemble Specialist Instructor
Trumpeter Charles Larkins is a proud Ann Arbor native. He attended the Ann Arbor Public Schools and received music degrees from Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. Throughout his career he has worked extensively with young people, maintaining a private trumpet studio since 1963, serving as Teen Director at the Peace Neighborhood Center, and volunteering as a Boy Scout leader. Mr. Larkins implemented and directed the first instrumental music program at Saint Francis School, and served on the music faculty of Washtenaw Community College for 20 years.
For more than 40 years, Mr. Larkins has directed and performed with the Ann Arbor-based Galliard Brass Ensemble. Acclaimed for their internationally-recognized recordings on the Musical Heritage Society label, the GBE has performed concerts throughout the US and abroad, including performances in Harbin, China. He is also the director of Brassworks, a classical music contracting service that provides professional brass players for special events throughout southeast Michigan.
Charles currently balances an active performing schedule with his full-time trumpet studio. He resides in Ann Arbor with his wife and son, who are also trumpeters.
