In Music Play, children will build a musical foundation through active music making, including singing, playing, and moving to music of diverse styles, tonalities, and meters.

Class Description
This is a very introductory music class for infants and toddlers.  During this class, your child will begin their music learning through song, dance, and playing instruments.  I welcome you and your little one to first and foremost have fun!  This is playtime!  Allow your child to discover and love music in this class and explore the wonderful world of music.  Remember: every child will be on a different musical level.  If your child does not seem to be participating or “improving,” it’s okay!  Students will progress as they begin to feel more comfortable – some progressing or participating more quickly than others.  Remember, this is a time to play!

Goals and Objectives
THROUGH THIS CLASS, CHILDREN WILL:
• Explore musical styles through listening to musical selections
• Improve kinesthetic ability through actively playing with percussion instruments
• Establish a sense of beat through movement and instrument playing
• Establish a sense of pitch through different songs, especially a tonal center based on the solfege concepts of “sol and do,” chord concepts of V and I, and tonic and dominant
• Improvise with rhythmic patterns and vocal techniques, as well as guided piano improvisation.
• Older students will improve their singing voices through singing along with songs in an appropriate vocal range.  These students will learn to recognize familiar songs and tunes with similar melodic and harmonic structures.  Younger students will acknowledge when the teacher is singing and might create some sort of “babble”
